Boogie Lo - Luv Life (2023)
In Summer of 2023 upon moving to Tempe, I was approached to direct the photo visuals and capture set photography for Boogie Lo’s breakout album, Luv Life. I worked with them to help realize their album concepts into real world shoots, document their video making process on set, organize studio shoots for a magazine-style look book, photograph their cover art and primary promotional material, as well as editing and post processing for everything captured on set. They also had me set up a Vogue-style studio interview with them for the album, which I was responsible for editing, mixing, captioning, and rendering. Much of the project organization was also done by Tall Skeleton Presents, who was the Project Videographer.
Director of Photography
For the album, Boogie Lo wanted to do a retro-summer aesthetic reflecting romance in the modern era, while calling back nostalgically to the past in a way that yearns like love.
I was tasked with helping direct the aesthetic for all accompanying photo and promotional work. They were very excited and specific with their creative vision, which helped me build even further on their ideas.
I’m grateful to have gotten to work on this project, as Jay and Marlo were extremely fun and inspiring to work with. The scale of this layered release taught me more about managing complex marketing plans & working professionally with musicians.
The shoots were done on two separate days, with other music video content being done by Tall Skeleton Presents.
I was responsible for being a set Photographer and Behind-the-scenes videographer, as well as my personal obligation to direct them for cover art material.
Myself and Tall Skeleton took turns on set arranging things for video and photo content. We also got help from a friend, Riley, providing an old-school Volkswagon Mini Bus for the photoshoot.
There was a single shoot with a crew in Tempe, and another out in the field at locations in Gilbert.
